History of the 43
Lee Petty, Richard’s father, raced the No. 42 which was the first and last number of a license plate that was sitting outside the garage the day they were painting his car back in 1948. When Richard started racing he kept the sequence going by racing the No. 43. Kyle raced the No. 44 and Adam raced the No. 45. The No. 43’s on track history with Richard at the wheel is rich with race wins and NASCAR Championships including:
  • 200 wins in the No. 43 “Petty Blue” car.
  • Seven time winner of the Daytona 500
  • Seven time winner of the Winston Cup Championship
  • 1959 Rookie of the Year
